Adolfo Domínguez grew upward in his father'due south tailor store in Espana, surrounded past all the makings of pattern and manner. And while he ventured to Paris to study art and motion picture, he returned to his roots, launching his eponymous brand in the '70s with a men'southward ready-to-wearable collection. The line has since expanded to include women'south vesture and accessories, while keeping the vision of quality and elegance. Having dressed the cast of "Miami Vice" in the '80s, Domínguez recently returned to Southward Florida to open several storefronts. Most contempo is his shop at Boondocks Middle at Boca Raton. In award of his store launch and leap/summer 2017 collection, we met with Domínguez to learn more about the brand designed for the intellectually refined.

On condign a designer:

I didn't choose. Information technology chose me. I was built-in in [my father'south] workshop. I used to play hide-and-seek between all the [fabric] rolls. And so I went through my studies. I had forgotten virtually [fashion] because my dream was to become something. I finished in Paris where I studied picture palace. Then I couldn't get into [cinema] because it'due south a very hard industry. I idea, 'My God, I'll go back home.' I decided to become back home, and so that's why I say, 'That's the way I was built-in.' I came dorsum. I didn't choose. It chose me.

On his inspiration:

Information technology'south not a painting. It's not music—music is fabulous. It'due south not literature because obviously fine art is very important, but, in fact, what inspires me is when you walk anywhere in the world—in whatever city, in any street—yous cross people constantly. In that location are some women who wearing apparel so well—five pct perchance, not more of women—who actually take care of what they clothes. They work on information technology. They make of dressing poetry. You tin can feel it. They combine silhouettes with textures, fabrics, colors, in such a style that they are really the people that inspire you. People combining a sense of things to play with in fashion. They are non designers, just they are artists. Information technology'south a way of expressing themselves.

On his Due south/S 2017 collection:

We utilize knitted [fabrics]. We employ stretchy things constantly. Both in ladies and both in men's. Dress today should cuddle you, should encompass you. It'south not the mode it was years ago. [Vesture] was just to show power, to bear witness status. It isn't anymore. Things have changed dramatically. The chief matter is sporty things, comfort, cozy. It should be cozy just still alive. We dress to be loved. Everybody wants to be loved. Nosotros dress ourselves because the dress [are] a second peel.

On the make's sustainability efforts:

I've been very conscious about information technology all my life. Now, today information technology's a trend. Fortunately, it's a tendency. I went through all my life trying to communicate these values without whatever success at all. I've been an ecologist since the very get-go. I was always conscious and in contact with this motility, which is a size movement. Information technology influenced the fashion I work. That'due south why I employ linen—linen is more than sustainable than cotton. I use cotton wool as well, just I utilise a lot of linen. I ordinarily brand the drove paying attending to these things, analyzing the carbon footprint and making decisions on it. I endeavour to be a responsible manufacturer.

On shopping advice:

Try to buy things that make you beautiful, not just tendency. Follow tendency if you lot must. Otherwise, it's useless. [Buy] annihilation that is beautiful on you. That is first communication. 2nd, be a responsible consumer. Pay attending to the carbon footprint.

On his bear upon:

Yous take to make people beautiful. Beauty is scarce. You should exist careful, and so that's why I always say, 'Don't follow trends, make information technology fit on yous.' Clothes should make you confident. Expect much more than through the windows than through yourself—that's a cloak-and-dagger equally well. Yous know yourself much more if you look at people, if you notice people.
